Its objective is to promote dialogue and cooperation between the various religious communities in Cyprus and to make a positive and constructive contribution to peace talks on the Cyprus issue. Through this initiative religious leaders undertake to work together for human rights, peace and reconciliation. class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-289faf0 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"289faf0\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The conference was held on 11 and 12 December 2018 and took the form of an educational seminar on freedom of faith and religion and human rights in general. The trainers consisted of legal advisers and experts from the OSCE and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. The trainees were religious leaders of Cyprus coming from all religious communities on the island. The aim of the seminar was to convey knowledge about how to defend religious freedom and the legal mechanisms for protecting it at international and local level.<\/p><p>Just some of the issues examined were:<\/p><ul><li>International conventions on the protection of human rights<\/li><li>Freedom of faith and religion and how it is protected<\/li><li>Freedom of faith and religion in contrast with freedom of expression<\/li><li>What should states do to protect and facilitate religious freedom for all?<\/li><li>Protection of places of worship<\/li><li>The principle of equality, the principle of non-discrimination and religious freedom<\/li><li>The legal framework on the protection of religious freedom in Cyprus<\/li><li>The role of the Religious Track of the Cyprus Peace Process and its achievements to date, etc.<\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-2f07c8c elementor-section-content-middle elementor-reverse-mobile elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"2f07c8c\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-ce609be\" data-id=\"ce609be\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-edae5a1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"edae5a1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">THE INTERPRETING<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-37057c2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"37057c2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div><p class=\"Body\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">Simultaneous interpreting services were provided at the conference by a total of four interpreters. Two booths had been installed in the room: one for Greek and one for Turkish with two interpreters per booth. I worked in the Turkish booth interpreting primarily from English to Turkish and secondarily from Greek to Turkish when Turkish-speaking participants took the floor.
